mount st. Helens America's greatest volcanoe
when someone asks me the first thing that pops into my head when they say "American volcanoes," I say Mt. St. Helens. this is because this brilliant volcano has shown millions of people to respect and fear the awesome power of these conduits of destruction.
this is a short video showing the worst destruction this volcano ever caused, starting with the largest landslide in history. flattening trees up to 25 mi away.
the volcano has erupted many times in it's history.
it's earliest eruption was 10,000 bp (before present) while it's most recent has been in 2008, the earliest recorded eruption was in 1831. it's most powerful eruption was 1855 yrs bp and was rated a 6 on the vei, (volcanic explosion index) causing 557 deaths. the volcano has erupted more times then almost any other volcano (non-continously) The most continous is Kilauea in Hawaii. the most to erupt ever is mount Jubial in India.
